Drake keeps adding to his jewelry collection with yet another legendary piece that belonged to Pharrell Williams, courtesy of Kid Cudi. The newest addition is Pharrell’s white gold brain pendant chain, a 2005 masterpiece by Jacob “The Jeweler” Arabo. The pendant features 44.92 carats of colorful diamonds in white, blue, black, and natural pink hues, with the logo in brilliant blue diamonds. Originally bought by Kid Cudi at Pharrell’s Joopiter sale in 2022 for $725,000, Cudi re-auctioned the artwork, with Drake making the winning bid of $243,750.
This purchase comes on top of an increasing number of Pharrell’s works that Drake has bought, many from Pharrell’s initial sale. These include a second brain pendant chain (he chose yellow gold this time), a quad skateboard pendant, his legendary 2005 N.E.R.D. chain, and even nine-carat Oakley shades. He displayed these there in his music video for “Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin.” Tellingly, only six months afterward, he would be throwing shade at Pharrell on “Meltdown,” threatening to melt the legend jewelry.
Pharrell responded to Drake’s purchases of jewelry and subsequent threats to burn them in a 2024 GQ interview. Pharrell was not bothered by the actions of Drake, stating that at its core, Drake is just a music fan and an admirer of the history behind these items. Pharrell said he felt at peace with parting with the items and recognized that letting go of tangible items generally means letting go of the memories associated with those items as well.
